I loooooved painting this. Spending weeks building up layers, embedding the ocean into the textures.

Some serendipitous outcomes –

~ When I started pouring in spirals, without a plan, the canvas crinkled, creating these nautilus shell effects.

~ My studio floor, not being level 🙄 means the paint always runs, creating flows and blends and tones in the paint. I love this.

The eventual outcome was a lagoon, with those iridescent fish we always find on our Ningaloo coast, spiraling, taking us Deeper.

I worked with colours that I just find delicious without trying to match ocean and coral per se, yet these are unmistakably the colours of our landscape here ♡
